Adan created nearly twenty paintings for the film Blood In Blood Out. In the art world, we speak of a magnum opus — a defining body of work — and without question, these pieces from the early 1990s stand among his finest.
All of the artworks visible in the film’s edited version, which runs over three hours, were painted by Adan. Given that the original cut was approximately five hours long, even more of his works were likely included, making an estimated total of around thirty pieces a realistic figure. It’s worth noting that a few of these paintings already existed before the film’s production.

While preparing for the film, Adan took a series of photographs. Unlike Merrick Morton’s production stills, his images were more personal and spontaneous — shaped by limited equipment and a painter’s eye rather than a photographer’s training.
Yet these photographs hold lasting significance. They offer a rare glimpse into Adan’s creative process and now stand as valuable historical documents. Together, they form a bridge to his iconic paintings and prints, carrying the same emotional intensity that defines his art.
